The Victor's Village

"The Victor's Village is a separate community built around a beautiful green, dotted with flowering bushes.
There are twelve houses, each large enough to hold ten of the one I was raised in. Nine stand
empty, as they always have. The three in use belong to Haymitch, Peeta, and me"
-Katniss
❝I wasn’t that surprised. Of course I’m disappointed, I love him we’ve made two movies together now and he’s an amazing filmmaker and he did a great job. I also feel like it’s going to be really fun for the franchise to have fresh eyes in there and give someone else as shot. I think Gary is very happy (and) as long as he’s happy, it’s fine.❞
(—— Elizabeth Banks on Gary Ross’ departure as director for Catching Fire)

❝Studios will tell you: A woman cannot headline an action movie. After The Hunger Games they might stop telling you that a little bit. Whatever you think of the movie, it’s done a great service. And after The Avengers, I think it’s changing.❞

❝I am attached to the next film and I’m intending to do it, I haven’t had a chance to think about it yet. So many people ask me adaptation questions or ‘Who’s gonna play so-and-so?’ I literally finished this movie Tuesday at midnight, I finished color timing, and then I went into the junket a day later, so it’s not like I’ve had a chance to think about Catching Fire but yeah it’s my intention to do the next one. They’ve asked me to do so.❞

❝Dude” says Jennifer Larwrence into her cellphone “I’m lost as fuck! I’ve been driving around for, like, 10 minutes. Where the hell is this place?”. She’s looking for a horse stable. We have plans to go horseback riding in the canyons above Malibu, but neither of us can find the place. I tell her to pull over and I’ll come find her. The most talented young actress in America is idling on a side street in her white Volkswagen, in blue jeans, a gray T-shirt and designer shades. “I have to pee so bad”.❞
(—— Rolling Stone Magazine article with Jennifer Lawrence)

❝Potentially so many people have cited it like a film called Battle Royale, which I had never heard of until after the first book and seeing the reviews, and then I watched and read Takami’s book and I see the similarities. But The Hunger Games was essentially born and bred from greek myths, Roman culture and ideology as well as my father’s stories of his service in the war, gave me the understanding and the effects that war has not only on an individual but on a population. As well as being inspired but the greatest writer of all time, Shakespeare, which I laid a reference to that within, President Coriolanus and themes from, Julius Caesar, and maybe a dash of Romeo and Juliet.❞

Lawrence dazzled on the carpet in a stunning gold Prabal Gurung dress, Jimmy Choo shoes and Jacob & Co. black diamond earrings. But her onstage appearance was pure clumsy girl-next-door. As director Gary Ross introduced her, Lawrence seemingly couldn’t wait in the wings. She made a move for center stage, thought better of it when she saw that Ross was still talking, and then comically dived back behind the curtain. When Ross finally did call for her to come out, Lawrence tripped during the walk to center stage. “She’s good at comedy, too,” Ross laughed. As she walked off, Lawrence noticed Hutcherson was mocking her walk. She turned and, in front of the crowd of thousands, laughingly gave him a Hunger Games three-finger salute . The crowd roared with delight.

Based on the number of posters and the volume of screams, it’s clear that most fans are on Team Peeta (Hutcherson) over Team Gale (Hemsworth). Hutcherson has enjoyed the attention. “One of the fans had a poster that said, ‘I’m a Peeta-file,’ ” Hutcherson beams. “That was probably the best one.” He admits the fans can be a little too extreme sometimes. “I had one show up at my house in Kentucky,” he said. “That was kind of crazy.” Just to be sure of his own safety, Hutcherson had a large, menacing security guard (complete with official security guy earpiece) at his side the whole night. “It takes time to get used to it,” he said. “But this is something that has to be part of my life.”

  • Collider: What did each of you personally take away from this experience?
  • Elizabeth Banks: Jennifer Lawrence is a fucking ridiculously crazy-good actress
  • Wes Bentley: Yeah, that’s definitely true. She blew me away. To carry a movie on subtlety is amazing.

❝In the evenings, the place to be was Kravitz’s hotel room. He would play iTunes DJ for the likes of Ross, Hutcherson, Banks, Tucci, and Harrelson. “Lenny had these racks of all these differents clothes for his stage show, or I suppose just for him in life,” says Harrelson. “We’d all try on his jackets and shirts and wild clothes and take pictures and laugh. I mean, I’m telling you, this was a great group of people❞

❝Cinna’s a very elegant man, so we thought he would design an elegant dress, and only when it twirls would the flame within the bottom of the dress suddenly become visible❞
